Nomination for citizen of the year

Hi all, Once again we are flooded in, this one is a big one and if the forcast is correct it could be 2 to 3 weeks before we see Kempsey again. the causeway is over 2 meters and climbing with no real break in sight. several 20-40 ml days plus 1 at 40-80ml of rain in the next seven.

On another note, back in November 2011 Macleay Valley Archers were proud to nominate our president Mr Cecil Apps as the Kempsey shires Citizen of the year. Sadly Cecil didn't win the award but that doesn't alter the high esteem that the club members hold for Cecil.

Sorry you didn't win Cec, but as club members go you are hard to beat. Shoot straight, enjoy 2012, let Teabag win a few & enjoy life.

What a great day it was Grandad didn't have the best shoot & I chose not to shoot so I can go to the break basking in the glory of having finished ahead of Grandad on our last encounter. Rather clever that.

Thanks to everybody who made the day a success. Congratulations To Alastair, Gloria & Martin on taking home the shooter of the year awards. Dave (Feathers) McManus was awarded the club member of the year award. Not an easy award to win as the results are in somebody Else's hands. Cec came a well deserved second. Katy won the highest leech award as well as making a very desirable cup cake display. Stewart & Kath brought a fruit platter and I brought my appetite. Garry finished the year on a high scoring 770 for the day.

Hi Teabag.
Annette and I would like to thank you all for your hospitality over the week end Christmas shoot.
We were the ones who were so keen to come we arrived on the Wednesday before the shoot.
We both had a great time Annette had her first ever shoot and would like to thank the club for the lend of one of its bows
she had had only three lessons with Peter and did not have a bow of her own (that is now corrected).
Once again thanks for everything we had a great time and will be back.

Branch Christmas shoot 3rd & 4th Dec 2011

Lets start with the negatives. Firstly I have lost the results so I can't give you the scores & only some Placings.

Pathetic, lousy, discouraging, apathetic, disgusting, disappointing, soul destroying are some ways to describe the turn up from our sister clubs. 34 starters 16 from Macleay, 4 from Manning, nil from Namoi ( Flooding ), 2 from Avon Plus Peter & Lynne who didn't shoot, 6 from Hunter, Nil from SAS, 4 from Moontera, nil from Boolaroo, 2 from Tuggerah a club with only about 6 members. Now for the good bits:- fantastic, awesome, incredible, super, unbelievable, magnificent & supercalafragalistic don't even come close to describing the weekend. Toilets flushing tick, food wow, Ranges tick, socialising tick, decorations tick, raffle prizes tick, weather tick tick tick, scores tick. I am now in my mid sixties and have played sport competitively since about the age of 12 as a result I have been in many clubs both as a member and as a committee member indeed I am a life member of 2 clubs, the only reason I mention all this is I just wonder if the general membership realises how special the Macleay club is. Everybody likes to see a club member do well even if they themselves haven't set the world on fire. The junior members are nice people to be with and are happy to help when asked. There is no backbiting or behind the scenes assassination attempts, everybody contributes as best they can. One family left whilst several of us were sitting around, somebody said "what a lovely family" and every body agreed. That seems to be the general feeling we all share for each other. Now lets talk about the canteen Narelle, Karen, Neil, Gloria & Cathie take a bow what a fantastic job you did, all with a smile and production like efficiency, it was good to bask in the good feelings your efforts created. Please notice I haven't mentioned Karen & Neil's rather horny Saturday night. Neil was a little limp in the horns from very early in the evening. The courses were great, even if I could have used a map to get around, just shows you can't stay away for to long. On a sad note I got thrashed by a young lady who couldn't remember to take her bow with her when she entered the range. It was funny watching her jog back to the muster point shouting " Don't shoot, Don't shoot". The same young lady and her Hubby camped so far away they nearly got hit by the north bound interstate train and called a taxi to get to the club house. Garry got the better of Steve in their on going tussel, Cup cake shot the best scores she has ever put in on an ABA weekend. Sunday's round was fun although it probably made it a little hard to catch those that may have been ahead. Finally in an incredible display of fire power Teabag finally got the better of Grandad. The axe and knife went longer than the 3arrow round, the new area allowed us all to watch and those competing could still feel like they were part of the group. The Collambatti Cane Toad shoot went really well and looks like becoming a regular fixture. All in all a great weekend. Thanks Darrin and co for the flushing toilets. Sorry to anybody I have missed it isn't intentional.

A mixture of 22 experienced and new archers made it around the anthill range without getting too wet on a threatening afternoon at Tamban for the Macleay Valley Archers weekly shoot last Saturday afternoon.
Steve Harris shot a tremendous 388 to tie Alistair Smedley for his first overall win at the club. This was a personal best for Steve and reflects his ability, which has really started to show through over the last twelve months and a triumph by some eight points over Dave McManus with whom Steve has developed a friendly rivalry. It was great to have a few of our younger adult shooters such as Tim Hodgman, Jacob Fuit and Dion Ussher come out for a stroll around the range and we even had a visitor (Matt Hodgman) from the Namoi Valley (Gunnedah) club.

A big thanks must go to club stalwarts Brett Hodgman and Darrin Symonds, who both gave up a chance to shoot so they could start preparing the club grounds for the Northern NSW branch Xmas shoot to be held on December 3rd and 4thwhich will see archers from all over the northern region gather on the Macleay for the last branch shoot of the year.
Ces apps and Glenn Freeman also should be congratulated for coming 1st and 3rd respectively in their divisions at the recent branch 3D titles held in Singleton.
There are still a few club shoots left for the year so anybody interested in giving field archery a go is more than welcome to join in the fun and should contact Ces Apps 65627047.

Thanks Garry for keeping me up todate. I think I will just stay away permenantly. Don't mention me Steve, Bp Glenn, Cola Karen & Grandad are all becoming just to hard to beat. All thats improving for me is my tea making ability. Really brings a tear to the eye. Well done everybody.

Free style archers led the way for the Macleay Valley Archers monthly IFAA shoot on Staturday the 29th of October. Alistair Smedley and Dave McManus both shot top notch scores and were closely followed by Karen Smedley, showing how competitive ladies can be, coming third overall on the day.
Scores for the day:
Alistair Smedley 256, Dave McManus, 252, Karen Smedley 237, Ces Apps 222, Glenn Freeman 216, Garry Ward 209, Brett Hodgman 204, Cooper Gray 204 Matt Gray 200, Ray Mcmanus 184 , Stew Benington 53.
Father and son team Mark and Finn finished on 70 and 97 respectively and the Brenton family, Tracey, Peter, Pat and Tim all shot in the 60s.
It has been fantastic to see lots of new faces around the club over the last couple of weeks and it would be a pleasure to see even more people giving this great outdoor pastime a try. Perfect spring conditions greeted 17 keen archers to Tanban last Saturday 22nd October. Whilst the numbers of regulars dwindled, this was more than compensated by the newcomers, many of whom attended the “ come and try” weekend.

Come and Try Weekend, It's Still On.

Even though its a bit wet we will still be running our come and try weekend. We have plenty of under cover area where we will be having some practical sessions on setting up your gear, arrow construction and fletching and general archery discussions. Just follow the red MVA signs from Great North Rd Frederickton. The road has recently been graded and will be fine.

8/10/11 IFAA shoot

I see the numbers who turn up has dropped off somewhat. I realise that most have stayed away because the Grandad, Teabag battle has been on hold for the last couple of weeks and the crowd has adopted the "move along- nothing to see here." approach. Since Teabag will be back soon the numbers should return to a more normal level. Oh I suppose it could have been the weather forecast. Grandad used a very devious plan this weekend and shot IFAA whilst most people arrived with their hi-power ABA bows. By the time the shoot was finished poor old Steve found that his shoulders had moved closer together.

Next weekend is our come & try weekend, so hopefully a few people will come & try the sport that has survived for centuries, won wars & had royal instructions as to who could and couldn't partake. With todays modern equipment the sport can reach the highest level no matter who you are, Please come & Try.

Come and Try Weekend 15th & 16th Oct

Next weekend is our come and try weekend. (See details to the right).Visitors are welcome to come any time over the weekend. Club members can come for as long as they like as well. We will be running coaching with still and video cameras, practical lessons in arrow construction, fletching, bow setup, serving etc. This will be a great opportunity to spend time on the practice butts tuning your bow and improving your technique. We will be doing repairs to all the club bows and re fletching the club arrows. Many of us will be camping over on Saturday night so the more the merrier. We will still shoot on saturday afternoon for those that want to. We will have the BBQ running and soft drinks will be available.

Thunderstruck IFAA 08/10/11

Despite a ferocious thunderstorm we still managed to get 7 foolhardy souls to shoot 14 targets of IFAA on our new range. Excuses were aplenty. "I brought my ABA bow". "I can't shoot all those arrows with my ABA setup". "I haven't got sight settings for 80 yards" Despite all these excuses we all managed to finish. Ray had no problems. "No sight, No problems". Scores were Cec-214, Brett-236, Stuart-224, Alistair-246, Ray-179, Dave-237,Steve-230.

October long weekend

Nope nothing happened, or so it would seem. As far as I know nobody except Grandad turned up at the club and nobody from the club went to Maitland. Maitland had its fair share of water 141mm uptill 9am sunday and 148mm up till 9am monday. One range was closed Saturday night as half of it was underwater and indeed the whole shoot was shut down after Saturdays shoot and positions declared on that result.

Branch IFAA titles at Avon 24/9/11

Hi all, a massive contingent of Macleay archers travelled to Avon for the IFAA branch titles, When I say massive I am simply referring to the waist line of Teabag, not the numbers who travelled. Cup cake & Tea bag had a great time. Unfortunately only 39 archers turned up for the titles. Saturday was beautiful weather whilst Sunday was the more familiar RAIN. Despite the rain most people really enjoyed themselves with the presentation being a very relaxed affair.

Top Macleay score for the weekend was Teabag, yes I know there was only 2 of us.Scores for the weekend were Cup cake- Hunter 388PB, Field 351 total 739PB 1st place. Teabag Hunter469, field 464, total 933 1st place

ABA 3 arrow 17/9/11

Hi all quick bit of housekeeping, our monthly meeting has been put back a week due to the state ABA titles at Hunter Bowmen. So the meeting will be 8/10/11 at midday.

In the 12 months Teabag has been doing this blog, regular readers will have noticed the pure, quality journalism, the deep desire for truth and accuracy in each and every article, a fact that sets him apart from his peers, it makes him the Andrew Bolt of the Archery blogs. Feared by many and it's true to say loathed by a few. Well it has come to light that a rather disturbing and somewhat frightening trend has surfaced in the club.......it concerns the Feathered Fingers clan. As you know our club is home to Feathers & Fingers, well dear reader read on and tremble with fear & concern. My first story concerns the patriarch "Fingers" Members be warned shoot with Fingers at your peril. By way of explanation Last week a group of four, with Fingers as their leader set of to shoot 20 targets ONLY 2 FINISHED, this week 4 set of again with fingers as the leader only 3 finished. The only logical conclusion one can draw is Fingers puts the moz on his group. Explanation 2 revolves around the battle hardened "Feathers". Now feathers has a shooting style that can only be described as robotic. At indoor shaft after shaft crash into the X ring, indeed I think he has shot a perfect round. His form is repetitive to the point of being boring, every shot is the same as the last. Well it turns out that fingers rather fancies Dryfires cupcakes and since Dryfire was having a well earned rest from me this weekend she hadn't made any cupcakes. This played on Feathers mind and as he strolled to the first target the thoughts started to collide. He stepped up to the peg still visualizing the non existent cupcakes which in turn caused him to briefly think of Dryfire which led to the subconscious thinking dryfire.....New PSE 70# brought back to full draw, other members of the group ducking for cover whilst screaming "Don't shoot no arrow" was enough to bring feathers back to reality with no damage done. As I feel somewhat responsible for Feathers trying to take out his entire group in one massive explosion of Parts Scattered Everywhere I will, henceforth refer to Dryfire as Cupcake.

One final thing Grandad again wiped the floor with Teabag, the margin was so big it cost teabag a can of Coke as well as a cuppa. Geez I dislike that slime green Bow.

A big thanks to Garry for the scores. Gee a lot of archers must have gone home happy. The scores are most unusual the highest only being 378, with 6 shooters in the 370+ area. janelle Kitchen, Kate Scott, Peter Scott, Josh Scott & Zac Ward were stand outs, well done. Sam Davies scored 244 which is pretty impressive for a new comer to archery and finally just as well I left early or I would have been making more tea for Grandad, well done Cec. Whilst talking about Grandad had he shot badly, he would have needed the GDP from a small African country to pay all his soft drink and tea wagers.

Saturday 10/9/11 ABA 3 arrow

Hi all, sorry this is late and just to add insult to injury I don't have the scores either. Gary rang to say he would email them to me so I will add them when I get them. What a beautiful day, the club was really throbbing with excitement. Everybody was happy & really reflected the beautiful weather. We had 3 female archers Kate, Janelle & Gloria plus Cathie helped out around the club with all the mundane things that go on, Thanks Girls. Gloria really enjoyed having girly company for a change. Peter shot really, really, well and scored over 300 with all but 1 target shot from the red peg. Don't forget it is his first time around the course ( I think). All his family appear to be above average beginners. Somewhere about 20 archers wondered around the course and by all accounts all enjoyed the day. I believe the range captain once again managed to confuse & bewilder most archers. Well done Dave. I have to say you are one of the few range captains who doesn't mind setting minimum distance shots. Will post the scores soon.

ABA 3 Arrow 3/9/11

Hi all what a great day. Dryfire was still a little sea sick after her off shore fishing adventure, a gift given to her last Christmas, from her loving hubby. It has turned in to the gift that just keeps on giving. I found the course really interesting, I think that's the word to use when in reality the range captain has set a course that leaves you completely confused. To put it bluntly by target 6 I had had enough, so spat the dummy and retired to the club house for my afternoon nap. Well done Dave. Some people didn't have to much trouble Marty, Dave, Ray & Brett all shot really well. Zac & Jack both shot PB's & Gloria put in one of her best scores for quite a while. The meeting ran smoothly and a come & try weekend is in the planning stage for October 15 & 16.

Our 5 year plan took a step closer to reality.

27th August IFAA round

Well wasn't yesterday just pure joy, totally undiluted by the events of the day. 12, no wait, 13 village idiots turned up for a day of fun & frivolity at Tamban Aquatic Park. The rules were simple, use whatever swimming stroke you are comfortable with to navigate from target to target. Then choose whether you wanted to stand in mud or running water to shoot. No warning signs had been erected so the depth of the mud or water was unknown, our group solved this dilemma in a most creative manor. We sent the short members of our group first. Now if they could breath we new it wasn't to deep, however if they sunk out of site, what was left of the group would have something to stand on. As the tallest in the group I thought this was a very cunning plan. The only scores I have are Brett 236 & Dave 234, they are all written on my trusty note pad, but the page has come off & turned in to totally illegible mush, honestly I've had things go through the washing machine that haven't suffered from aquatic immersion to the same extent. One other result that is worthy of note, is Grandad has finally found out what it is like to walk in my shoes. He makes a mean cup of tea & I really enjoyed it. After the shoot he returned my shoes, so next week will be a totally different event.

Next Saturday is our club meeting STARTING AT 12 MIDDAY.

Fuel saver Part 2 20/8/11

What a surprising day, Dryfire & I checked the forecast, then the creek, organised emergency accommodation for Sat night, just in case, then headed of to the club. On the way we decided not many would show up, boy were we surprised. 16 shooters plus Peter who stayed on the practice butts. All in all we had Peter with his brand new bow, Jay a junior who came with Dad & his 3 siblings & Stuart a very experienced archer who joined the club. Stuart drives a Land Rover straight out of the Mad Max movies. Black with 2 huge spots on the bull bar, winch & 6 yes 6 smaller spots on the roof rack. Mud tyres, high lift jack & shovel all in purpose built racks, 2 GPS systems plus a hand held unit. Sounded like a diesel also had a snorkel and mans best friend "WOOF"So all in all I'm guessing Stuart never goes of the bitumen, well not much any way. He also pulls a 3000# bow. Dave took his PSE out for the day and boy does it perform, when he releases you hear a high energy crack somewhat like a rifle then a split second later the butts rock about and nearly fall over. Really good news for us average archers Karen is going away for about 5 weeks, she has taken long service leave and she & Alastair are going to England to help her Mum & Dad celebrate their 50 wedding anniversary. Have a great time. At least for the next 5 weeks I will move up the pecking order by one, ah! pure joy. Grandad took his new slime green Mardi Gras bow round the course and absolutely blitzed it leaving poor old Teabag at the tea urn once again, boy life can really suck.

Gunnedah State 3D titles 13th & 14th August

A bakers dozen set of on the great trek west to compete in the NSW state 3D titles. Now it's supposed to be flat out on the western plains so how come Gunnedah managed to find the only damned hill in the entire state to play on. Huge Basalt rocks littered the area and made really good places to stand the 3D targets on. Over the weekend our group lost, bent or broke 15 arrows. Dryfire & I stayed Sunday night and walked around 3 targets spent about half an hour doing it and came back with 5 lost arrows, not all ours. The carbon footprint must add up to the GDP of a small African nation, at about $10.00 per carbon shaft. Personally I loved the shots but had a difficult time walking around the hill. From our 13 starters we came home with 4 State Champions, Martin & Cec deserve a big pat on the back for their efforts, well done you two. Martin had the top Macleay score for the weekend and Brett top scored in the seniors with a 1484. Overall the courses were challenging but we as a club did real good.

Fuel saver shoot leg one 6/8/11

Oh boy writers cramp from all the shooters who turned up this week. 20 off you well done. We held our club meeting for the month with the main item being the purchase of a brushcutter with saw blade, a petrol driven blower and a ride on mower. Brings a tear to the eye don't it. Over the next few months Burgers are to be ordered and paid for at the canteen then the order will be passed on to the chef. No burgers are to be ordered by any body other than the canteen lady or her appointed replacement. Cold drinks are to be purchased from the canteen as per usual. Those Pesky range setters were at it again, making things really difficult 766 was the top score for the day so I guess the did a damned good job. Sitting here looking at the results I have put my head on the block and nominated what I think are the top 3 efforts for the day so here goes, No 3 Neil, Finger shooter with sights who shot 736, No 2 Karen 728 1st shoot back in several months, new string, new settings and still beat most of the field, Very annoying. No 1 belongs to Cooper who shot a 616PB Cooper hasn't shot regularly over the last few weeks and has had a difficult time of things. So putting all that aside to shoot a PB is a fantastic effort.

Next week for most of us is Gunnedah. I think a few are coming to the club to shoot and fix a few small problems so if you turn up bring your work ethic along with the bow. ABA 3 arrow 30/7/11

Great day, lots to talk about so go grab a cuppa and sit back. firstly next week is the club meeting it will start at 12 noon followed by the first round of the ABA national fuel saver shoot entry fee is $10.00 so it will be a 2 arrow both to score, round 2 will be a fortnight later. The state 3D titles at Gunnedah will be sandwiched between the 2 fuel saver shoots, then on the final weekend we will have our IFAA weekend. we had 14 archers compete this week. I think there must be something in the water around here as we are seeing new bows sprouting like mushrooms, out of the 14, 7 were new or near new bows and another member has a brand new one at home getting set up. We also had more new shooters than flies around the compost heap, the clubs future looks really good, a big welcome to the following David first time at archery. Went home happy despite the large bruise on his arm. Kate shot for the first time and did really well. Richard & Ethan also shot well for new comers. Cec, Darrin & Steve went to Taree on Sunday for some practice on 3D, which brings me to my next point.

For those that have been reading this over the last 9 months ( well done ) you would be aware that Grandad & Teabag stage a weekly battle. Over that period grandad has come out on top far more than Teabag has, however over the last 4-5 weeks Teabag hasn't done a bad job of keeping Grandad honest, now however Teabag feels somewhat guilty as Grandad has had to buy a new bow and travel to Taree for extra practice. The only logical explanation is Grandad's pathological fear of being beaten by Teabag. Narelle please accept my apologies for causing all the extra expense in your family, I do however have a plan, He He! Watch out Grandad.

Alastair deserves special mention for his fantastic score of 392 really hot shooting that. On the down side he has fixed Karen's bow so we can expect her back at the pointy end of the field real soon.. Easy way to help the club

As most of you are aware several businesses sponsored targets at the club, all the money raised is used for the benifit of us the member, hence the reason for this request. I realise that we don't all use their services every day and so do they, but if each member family bought 1 weeks supply of meat from the butcher who sponsored us or fuel or BBQ gas or fruit & veg from the servo. imagine how happy the business would be to support us again next year. Give it a try and let the business know you are from the club and have decided to give them a try because they supported the club you belong to.We changed our butcher to L-bo butcher for that reason and told him why we were there we enjoyed the meat and now he gets all our meat business. If we didn't like it we wouldn't have gone again. The side benefit from this and letting him know why were there is that he has indicated he will go again next year. So just give it a try with any sponsor that has a product you can use. But let them know why. If you don't like their product, price or service then don't back up for a second go.

I really didn't get the time to say this over the weekend but I have a few minutes spare at the moment and I just wanted to thank everybody who contributed to the IFFA Range Brett, Garry & Dave worked hard for the benifit of us all, the old brigade filled bales, The girls painted, Alastair apologised to several tree branches as he introduced them to the chain saw Steve help drag bales around and many more members gave a hand. If I haven't named you please forgive me but the mind is old and feeble. Without all your efforts the club would still be IFFA less.

IFAA 23/7/11

12 archers arrived to give our brand new IFFA range the once over. A few minor modifications may be needed but all in all everybody enjoyed the challenge. Due to our highly organised state we shot a mix of field, hunter & Animal faces from nearly the correct distances. It may be fair to say we we are not the best shots in Australia but we certainly were the best in Kempsey and probably set a world record for this particular mix of faces. Once again Teabag had to make Grandad's cuppa, he has done it so often he doesn't need to ask how he likes it. Real bummer that!

9 archers got leave passes to attend the branch titles & three archers brought back first place medals and a couple of second places well done MVA.

Steve Harris has found a sure fire method of shortening his draw length, simply use a high poundage bow for the weekend. Sure pushed his bow arm halfway across his body. Nobody wanted to shoot with Dave and his new bow, seems the creaking scares us mere mortals. The old fart brigade did real good Cec & Ray both won their sections with Teabag & Dryfire coming second in their classes. Freestyle unlimited flight 2 was our greatest achievement Darrin came 1st only 16 points lower than the highest adult score shot over the weekend in flight 1, Dave came 3rd.

Well that was an interesting day. You could throw a small rug over the entire field. Some good scores were shot and we had more new bows than children at the local kindy.

Dave gave his new PSE its first run Brett had baby Elite out in public for the second time & I think Garry had his new arrival with him, Cec moved back in time to his Elite which had been under the bed for the last 12 months. Actually Elites seem to be the bow of choice at the moment. Still no Karen, not sure if she had to work, still has the flu or Alastairs sabotage was more severe than first thought. Next weekend most of us will be at Taree for the Branch E titles. The IFAA range is only a tiny bit away from being finished, thanks everybody for all you have done. Brett, Garry & Dave have put in a lot of effort for our pleasure.

Top score for the day was Darrin whilst Zac shot a PB. Cec improved by a massive 18 points & Ray shot 340 with fingers & Barebow. Well Done.

Dave & Steve moved a few targets and distances around last week and both last weeks & this weeks scores reflect that the course may indeed be slightly more difficult.

Brett Has A New Baby.

Shane assisted with the delivery.It's arrival has caused some concern within the household as the Boss is concerned that the new baby is getting more attention than she is. Paradise returns, what a fantastic day good weather, good company & some really good scores. Brett 390, Alastair 388, Gary 382 & Martin from the red pegs 382 all deserve special mention. Well done you four.

18 shooters enjoyed their walk through the bush with the occasional plunk of arrows disturbing the silence. I'm not sure whar Zac's parents feed him but whatever it is the leeches love it. You may remember last time Karen shot she beat her husband, silly girl, she then had to travel for work and hubby promised to fix something on her bow whilst she was gone. Well Karen couldn't shoot at the weekend some how her bow is broken. Alastair claims it was like that all the time and he noticed it whilst he had the bow in the press. Probably true, but at least it stopped Karen beating most of us. Well done Alastair, good to see you taking one for the team.

In the on going battle between Grandad & Teabag, Teabag came out on top, normally I would spend some time gloating about my fantastic victory, but not this time I have decided to be more mature and point out how well Grandad shot. He scored really well on all the targets he managed to hit. At his age pulling that big heavy bow isn't easy and he gets tired but that didn't stop him from trying really hard and besides 20 points isn't really that much. There well done grandad.

Brett's 390 is pretty special any score in the 390 -400 range should put you on cloud nine, in Brett's case it has caused concern as he only picked up his new bow late Saturday and now wonders which one he should use Our AGM presented no surprises with the only change being Garry Ward is our new Secretary taking over from Neil who due to work commitments didn't offer himself again. Thanks for stepping up Garry and to Neil Thanks for all you did.

Hi all, sorry this is late but we only managed to get home late yesterday due to the flood. The trip into our property via Dungay Creek was a little hairy as the rocky bottom was all loose and unstable and the water was lapping about 100mm above the bottom of the van door plus it still had a bit of power. I never would have tried it when we first came here 2 years ago, so I guess I am getting old & stupid are slightly more experienced. Gloria & I would really like to thank Mama Cass, Breanna, Zac & Jordan, this family put up with us from Tuesday through to Sunday, all without complaint, Mama Cass even gave us her bed. A really big thank you to the four of you, We are not really sure how to repay you all other than to say THANKS.

7 Macleay shooters wondered of to the land of vertical water, the locals referred to it as Avon Valley. Dryfire & I arrived late Wednesday arvo and set up camp, complete with the usual heckling, our site was only just big enough and indeed we hung over the boundary on 3 sides a chilly nip was already in the air and the gauge dropped to .5 over night. Thursday & Friday were quite pleasant days with the clouds slowly rolling in over the hills. This was a two edged sword rain but warmer nights. Saturday had light misty rain with the occasional heavy shower and really heavy rain at night. Despite the weather you could hear peels of laughter echoing around the ranges and most people seemed happy. Sunday was pretty damp and poor old Brett Paddison slipped in the mud & sprained his good ankle. I must admit I missed him on Monday.

The Avon members must have been really proud and exhausted all at the same time. The meal on Saturday night was out of this world. Spit roast Beef & Pork with baked Potatoes, Pumpkin, Corn & Peas all of which could be cut & eaten with plastic knives & forks. It would have won any episode of master chef. The amenities block comprised of 3 buildings all linked with roofing and veranda. Building 1 was the ladies toilet block with 4 stalls mirrors and a seat outside for long suffering husbands to sit and wait on. At the opposite end was the Men's block with all that anybody could want. building 2 was the shower block with 4 showers and a waiting room. Behind this building was the water supply system. I think this was borrowed from Cape Canaveral Space Centre. If you have seen the space launch then you have seen Avon's hot water system. It comprises a 30' tower which holds a 1000 litre tank at the top, on the next level down is another 1000 litre tank and a smaller feeder tank which feeds down to the next level into 2 rheem storage hot water units & then to the showers. very impressive. Poor old Garry had release aid problems and did the face punch which resulted in a few stars and a broken tooth. Gloria did the same twice and has the bruise to prove it. Steve won his division on a shoot off 44 to 43. Tim came third. Gloria brought home a gold and I jagged a silver, just as well Grandad didn't come or it may have been bronze. well done to all.

What a beautiful day, we sure are lucky to live in Australia. We didn't quite get the rain that was forecast, thank goodness. It was enough to flood us in for about 30 hours and a normal sedan just wouldn't have made it then. however all is well that ends well. I think we need to send the McManus Family to the sports institute for the usual blood & urine tests Fingers wins the Handicap event by a ridiculous margin, and refused the test at the club. The old fella shot a masters score, 358, barebow and his son Feathers won the day of the bow with a PB of 388. On reflection I reckon they have been sitting at home chomping hormone tablets by the bucket load. Despite their dominance the day produced a result that all could be happy with...oh maybe not all. Teabag surged past Grandad with a victory nearly as decisive as last weeks loss. Dryfire had a great day which meant Tea bag also enjoyed the trip home. Pea wee shot well again. We had two Zac's shoot on the day and as one is slightly taller than the other the tall one is Christened Sixpence with the shorter to be Tray bit. For those to young to remember or recent imports to Australia in the days of pounds shillings & Pence Sixpence was referred to as a Zac and threepence was a tray bit. Good old Aussie slang. I guess after all this you want to know who scored what. Hi all and welcome to another day in the life of MVA.Iam sitting here looking out over our valley, Gloria has left for church with a last minute shopping list. If we get the weather that is forcast for us over the next few days we will once again be flooded in probably for about 4 days hence the last minute shop. I really enjoyed yesterday Glenn & Cec are great to shoot with and make it a really good day. I once again called upon my sportsmanship and allowed 10 archers to beat me, sadly Grandad was in that ten. Grandad displayed a rather rotten streak and smashed my lucky arrow, broke the nock and cracked the shaft for 30 mm. Damned thing was in the 20 so I really don't understand how grandad hit it. Cola Karen had a quiet trip home, what can you expect when you beat hubby. Karate Matt just coudn't give up the 2 points I needed to tie with him. Don't tie with me Brett used the wrong pin as did Coins Alastair, funny part was Coins only has 1 pin on his slider. Pee Wee Josh has returned with a new bow and a cheer squad that would fill the Titanic, really nice to see such a happy band welcome all to our club. Security Josh brought his brand new doesn't touch anything arrow rest, I am really looking forward to seeing it in action.BP Glenn in a club first won both of the bow & handicap well done Glenn. Home brew Garry shot really well as did Feathers Dave. All in all a great day. Just to start on a depressing note Bad news I'm afraid.........the handicap results will be a little late this time. On the plus side I am proud to say Darrin was this weeks handicap winner. The look on his face was priceless. Tea Bag did the sporting thing and lost to Grandad, Cola Karen, infact just about everybody. Ah well one step forward 2 backwards.As I am feeling really sorry for myself we might move on to the scores. A few really impressive performances this week, firstly Feathers Dave just keeps getting better & better. Dad chewed his ear on the way home last week re shooting high so I guess he was to frightened to get it wrong this week. What can you say about Cola Karen soft spoken, only shoots every blue moon & still hasn't learnt how to miss. The girl shoots like a machine and I for one would love to see just how well she could shoot. I really think with only slightly more effort she would be world class. Now this brings me to Andrew Madden, this was Andrew's first visit to the club and his first go at ABA he has only had his bow about 3 months, so in all ways he is a rank beginner.So what happens he wonders in with a score of 350 from the red peg. What a bloody cheek didn't he read the book that states very low scores are required to start with. We have decided to contact him as soon as a members position becomes available.

Re the handicap system

Our handicap system works the same as most handicap systems on earth. In other words all things being equal we would all finish close to 400. However because we all are capable of shooting better or worse than our average our handicap score can be over or under 400. With more results to work from, for each person, the gap should narrow. Golf, horse racing, yacht racing etc all work very close to this principle. in other words the competitor who can on any week shoot higher than their average will be the winner. It really doesn't matter that 400 is the maximum score from the bow. If you check golf it isn't unusual for the winner to be way below what Tiger woods would score ( before his melt down). I find it difficult to understand how any club would laugh at the scores, however each to their own thoughts. For me it just adds one more level of fun & actually gives the up & coming archer a chance to be first. In the Sydney to Hobart yacht race all attention focuses on line honours, where the million dollar maxis battle to be first across the line, however they also have a race winner which often comes from the smaller boats. The reason for this is they all have a yardstick which is applied to their times to get a winner.

First off Happy Birthday Ray, nice to see old age is achievable. Apart from no milk the day went really well, even the black tea at the days end was pure nectar from the Gods. May be the fact that my humble servant had to make it. There was some discussion re 2points formally Old Fart re his nick name. the feeling was he should be called Tea Bag, so till further notice Tea Bag it is. I don't know about you but by mid arvo I needed a spotlight to see the target, it really got dull in the bush. A nice turn up of 17 toxophilites arrived to enjoy the company & for the third Saturday in a row something on the car broke, starting to get really annoying. A couple of things to note, as far as I know this was only Pee Wee's second try at archery. Dammed good effort that. Fingers Ray shot bare bow, so he needs to be watched as well, may be a good set of hobbles. Fingers is Feathers father who frequently fires finely feathered shafts favourably.

Ray, Dave, Matt & Cooper did a great job with the new Dunnies and all this despite being supervised by a small army from the management team. We had Cec, Mike, Steve, Beau & Jacob all making sure the workers had support in all there decision making. Fortunately there was only one shovel & non of the management team were qualified in its use.

When finished we will have an official opening were our President will take the first leisurely seat on the presidential throne & then report back to the cheering crowd at which point streamers will be thrown and a flock of brown pigeons will be released. This being symbolic of its intended use. I know it's asking a lot but if we could all not go untill they are finished we should be able to open the day with a bang.

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to all the MUMS. Have a great day.

Well that was an interesting day wasn't it. Weather A+, Company A+, Burgers A+, Cuppa A+, Shoot, well for Grandad & I it was just awful, more so for grandad as I beat him, but really we should have been hung, drawn & quartered. Geez we shot like two really old infirmed geriatrics. One thing I learnt and passed on to grandad is that it is extremely hard to score on a series 4 target when you don't move the sight from the previous series 1 target. We also ran our first handicap event which works like this (I think) the program averages your 6 highest scores from your last ten results, deducts the average from 400 and that's your handicap, which is then added to your score for the day giving you a handicap score. There clear as mud. For example your 6 best scores from your last ten when added, total 2220, divided by 6 =370, therefor your handicap is (400-370)=30. today's score was 376 plus handicap 30 final score would be 406.

Our handicap winner was Feathers Dave by 1/2 point from Don't mention me Steve with Martin McFly third.

Macleay-Vegas Indoor shoot 30/4/11

Hi everybody. First a little house keeping. To days working Bee has had to be moved & the same with the general meeting. Will post news on these important events as they become available. Alistair has developed a spread sheet that will allow us to run a handicap event as often as we like. The program was trialled & the only problem seemed to be I came second. Thanks Alastair for all your efforts, I can only imagine how many hours went into it.

The Boss & I left home in bright sunshine, after days of rain our driveway was under about 400mm of fast flowing water, the only real problem with this is that the bottom becomes unstable and very hard to keep traction. As we drove through Kempsey we saw a big black cloud and started to wonder if we would get home. On arrival at the club we met up with 4 other archers, Aaron was nowhere to be seen but his big black cloud was, first the rain came straight down with such volume that it was hard to see the cars parked about 5 meters away. Then the angle started to change till finally it was wetting the entire roofed area from one side to the other. The six of us fitted snugly in the canteen & only reappeared when the rain became normal again, at this stage the road was under about 50mm of running water, all the tables, chairs & books etc were drenched so we had lunch & a cuppa. We decided once again to hold the Macleay- Vegas indoor shoot, changed the rules slightly with the teams to be family members. As soon as this decision was made Josh sent out smoke signals and the Hodgman family arrived with the Harris family in the back seat, 3 minutes later the Smedley family arrived. Perfect 6 family teams and then BP Glenn arrived on his own.....no problems as the BP is an abrieviation for borrowed by Potters. Due to the lay out and volume of entrants we could only shoot 1 round which was 20 arrows, the same as we shoot on most Saturdays. The format allowed for plenty of socialising. Scores out of 200 were:-Teams Smedley & Hodgman 195, Team Apps 188, Team Potter & Freeman 182, Team McManus 180, Team Harris 160.

What a big weekend. 3 major events Easter where we celebrate what was the birth of Christianity, Anzac Day where we remember the sacrifices our forbearers made to make sure we can live the life we enjoy & finally the thrashing of 2points by grandad. 10 archers got leave passes to come out to play. We enjoyed a much better BBQ than last week, due totally to the iron chef being skilled to a much higher level than 2points will ever be, Bliss oh bliss we had white tea, which I must admit 2points really pigged out on. The scores were not as high as usual and are as follows:

Steve filled us all in on the worlds, which had about 500 shooters and the host club were catering to about 1500 people each day WOW that would test any club to the limit.

Next week is the next club meeting it will be held BEFORE the shoot. There is a working Bee next Sunday so please try to make both events as JFK once said " ask not what your club can do for you but instead ask what can I do for the Club." That may not be an exact quote but I'm sure that's what he meant.

Day three and all our boys are holding up under the strain. The standout for us is still Tim. There are 82 shooters in their section with only a handfull of points seperating the top ten. Top score is 1628

Brett 41 total so far 1504

Tim 43 total so far 1486

Steve 66 total so far 1414

As you can see Steve has continued his steady march up the ladder.

Positions after day 2 Brett 38, Tim 45, Steve 69. Brett must have mixed feelings re Tim. Brett would be bursting with pride at how well Tim is shooting and at the same time looking over his shoulder as Tim is only a few points behind each day. Steve is on the improve as well.

Macleay-Vegas Indoor shoot 16/3/11

Hi All, well for those that don't know the wife & I live on a rural property about 40 minutes west of Kempsey, we have to negotiate 3 creek crossings to come to town & get flooded in or out on a regular basis. About once every 7 weeks to be pedantic. So when Friday comes we check the creek heights and the weather to guess whether we can go to archery or not. After this ritual we go to bed and look forward to our day out on Saturday. Well this week we were awakened at 4:00 am to the sounds of rain playing a timpany on the roof and the creek starting to roar, a combination that usually means we are flooded in for a few days. Not happy Jan! Several unsettled hours later we got dressed and discussed what we would do, after making our decision we rang Grandad to see if the shoot was still on and if it was, could we stay in his van if we couldn't get home, somewhat amused by the question Grandad said yes to both so of we went. 12o'clock, still raining and 4 idiots oops i mean 4 keen archers had turned up so we all had a cup of tea, black as nobody thought to bring milk. We had a BBQ lunch ---still raining. We called a meeting to decide what to shoot & eventually ( still raining) decided to hold the inaugural Macleay-Vegas indoor shoot. A most prestigious event . Nominations were accepted from Grandad Cec, Bp Glenn, Old dryfire Gloria & 2points Mike. Rules were formulated Due to Grandad only having the index and pages 2-48 missing, teams were selected and then we had a cup of BLACK tea Oh! still raining then the shoot was on The Macleay-Vegas indoor certainly brings out the pressure cooker atmosphere as teams and individuals jockeyed for position. As we could only shoot 1 team at a time the other team had ample opportunity to help the opposition with all sorts of hints and advice. The stakes were high as the loosing team had to make a cup of BLACK tea for the winners. I am proud to say that the young guns team of Bp Glenn & 2points held of the antique vets team of old dryfire & Grandad.

Just a quick apology first, I have loaded a few pictures from the many that the Ussher family kindly supplied. The photo's were selected at random & sight unseen & were supposed to load in medium size,well 2 or 3 have come in at the size of Victoria, hence we have a nice shot of a tree, half of Martin & most of Brett. I can't change it yet for a couple of reasons 1/I don't know how & 2/ they take so long to load and I don't really have the time.

Hopefully I will get better.

18 hopefulls took to the Goanna range including a brand new husband & wife team who judging by the peels of laughter that came from their group had a great time. Although watching Grandad shoot could reduce anybody to laughter. Yes he beat me again & I am just being bitter.

Scores for the day were generally very good.

Mrs Ussher let us down and again let Martin come out to play and once again he thrashed us, hopefully old age will catch up with him really soon and he returns to the level of a mere mortal. In fact the entire Ussher family did well, Dad Neil appears to be riding a hot wave at the moment and son Dion has mastered the art of forgetting his wallet, not a problem with dad there to provide the necessary help.

Hi all,

Well today went really well 12 archers turned up and 2 scores that were pretty good Ben Ward shot a PB from the red pegs 336 And Martin really turned up the wick & shot a 394, we wondered if Mrs Ussher could find him a few jobs at home on Saturday, just to give us mere mortals a chance. I called in to the vets on the way home and had Old Dryfire checked out for performance enhancing drugs. How else do you explain 198 last week & 338 this week. Both scores look like causing old fart much consternation as last week I suffered through total misery & this week looks like being total happiness. I have learnt that "Yes Dear" said with just the right amount of feeling seems to work in both cases. In the on going battle between Grandad & old fart it would be easy to look at the scores and say Grandad did it again, but allow me to put forward a differant point of view. point 1 Grandad used all 20 targets where as old fart only used 19 & that means grandad had an average of 17.7 per target hit whilst old fart averaged 18.526315 per target hit, so based on that result I ask you who shot the better, to support that theory Grandad himself stated that 2 points wasn't worth mentioning.

One of the members has requested that old fart be known as 2points from know on, something to do with my friendly supportive nature that allows all & sundry to beat him by 2 points... So hence forth Old Fart is now 2 points. To any body whose name I have spelt wrong I am really sorry.I have found many different ways to spell your names, but it may really be the fault of your Mum & Dad. So sorry to all I do try really I do. And now the scores:-

ABA 3 Arrow Round 12/3/11

Hi all. Those of you who read last weeks missive will hopefully remember that Old Fart finally beat Grandad not just beat him but thrashed him by the almost unheard of margin of 14 points, the down side of this thrashing was totally unexpected & resulted in Grandad losing his bounce when he walked, his demure nature vanished but worst of all the twinkle in his eye was no where to be found. This turn of events really saddened Old Fart. As a result of the above Old Fart is proud to announce that the status quo has again been restored. Grandad in a display of incredable bravery crept passed Old Fart and beat him ( yet again) by the smallest of margins, a margin so small as to be almost inconsequential. Old fart believes that to be beaten by this small a margin is nearly as good as a win but has the side effect of restoring Grandads demure nature. The bounce is once again in evidence,but best of all the twinkle has returned at about 4 million candlepower. All these benefits and all it took was a narrow win of 14 points. Mrs Ussher & her mother, bless her heart, arrived to do their annual cleaning, I have never seen two people do so much in so much time and still be happy at the end. To both of you thank you so much.

Members started on the working bee straight after the shoot and today are the final touch ups.

We had a new prospective member arrive. Ilia has just relocated to the area from Toowoomba in Queensland. Ilia welcome not only to the club but enjoy your stay in this beautiful part of the world. Several target sponsorships have been sold and members are asking their bosses which is really nice. 18 archers turned up to try their luck, 19 actually but poor old feathers broke his 1986 American and went home to see what repairs he could make. What a beautiful day, Damp, Muddy, wet & teaming with live little critters.....Ah pure heaven.

At this point I am trying really hard not to get to excited but...."O bugger it" I finally did it I beat Grandad not just by 1 point but I ground him into the dirt sorry mud.Didn't even stop to pick him up. I could go on & on but the thought of the retribution that is no doubt going to come next week weighs heavily on my mind & besides he is one of my very best friends. The club meeting went well with lots of animated discussion. Once the minutes are approved if you would like a copy just send me your email & I will send you them in PDF format that way at the next meeting they can be accepted. A lot of members are attending their bowhunting proficency course today hope you all pass and enjoy the event.

Interesting result the top end was really crowded & most archers found the course more challenging than usual, not sure why, may be the 5000 metre rabbit shot was the problem.

Feathers moved up from his stick to a fairly modern 1980 recurve. I had the pleasure of shooting with Feathers, Bowless, Cassie & Old Dryfire and we had a real ball with lots of good natured banter and peels of laughter and high pitched shrieks. Notice I havn't really mentioned somebodies massive pressure drop. Nearly forgot Cooper shot another PB for his 1 arrow round well done Coop. For those that don't know Coop is only 10 & came without his dad. Then sat around at the meeting very quiet and very patient. Congratulations Matt Be proud of Cooper he did you good.

Well it's official I AM OVER SUMMER, sorry to all you people that love the heat but I have made a request to the powers above to consider 29.5 degrees as a suitable summer heat. There is simply no need for 30+ days, thats just showing off. That said it was a great day, complete with two visitors who are just starting their archery journey. Thanks Rod & Toby for making the trip. Hope you had a great time. 21 shooters turned out for the day and all had a good time.

Martin shot 390 to top score for the day. Well done . Pig Hunter Cooper had a 334 PB well done Cooper.

The canteen again worked very well and actually makes us look more professional. My personnel apology to the executive chef, the slight over sight re your photo will be corrected. May I take this oppotunity to go public with my humble yet most sincere apology, in an effort to correct my ways I have submitted to 100 lashes with the birch cane ( that made for an interesting evening) scrawled 1000 lines across the blackboard, acknowledged my three evenings of home detention which must be served & finally on the 30 of March I am to be keelhauled from the Sea Urchin immeadiately before its departure for the days fishing. It appears that the new found feeling of clubmanship is still hard at work infecting all & sundry. The targets were put out by two or three happy volunteers, teenagers were happy to man the canteen when required, a gaggle of juniors wondered off to get the targets. All this happened with no fuss. Thanks everybody it sure makes for a happy club. Brett if you are reading this Flt 1 & flt2 at Hunter Bowmen both had 1508 as the winning score.

We have started the club member of the year program. The rules for this year are Turn up on the day for a club shoot 1point, working bee 3 points, away shoot 2 points, first 5, second 4, third 3, and at the end of the year upto 20 bonus points will be allocated by two members to whom ever they see fit. so one person could get 20 points or twenty people could get 1 point. There that's as clear as mud. MEETING NEXT SAT 5th AFTER THE SHOOT.

Twelve archers made the trip down south into the land of 3000 degree days. Saturday just wasn't fun, for me anyway. By late afternoon a thermometer in the shade was registering 41c. By tea time I just wanted to die so rather selfishly I really don't know much about the weekend. Despite our best efforts to sabotage Feathers by shortening his long black thing with knob he still came out on top. As usual the younger members didn't seem to notice the heat, whilst us oldies just wanted to survive. At this point I should mention that in the continuing battle between Master & pupil, the master again came out on top. We actually tied on score but the master had 36 a's to my 35a's. At this rate I will have to live to 125 to get good enough to beat him. Bugger. It was nice to see Gunnadah Mat and his senior manager turn up. I'm sure his Dad enjoyed the catch up time. Results are below.

Macleay Valley the club of excitement 2011

Hi all sorry to be a day late but as they say better late than never. I have to say I have never been prouder of a club I've been a member of than this weekend. Stand up & take a bow Macleay Archers. The buzz & excitement was thick in the air and several members felt it. Huge amounts of work had to be undertaken and about 1/2 the club turned out to help, some who couldn't come Sunday came on Saturday to do their bit. Everybody did their bit & more complete with smiles & happy banter. It really was a fun place to be. The club looked like the parking lot for Ride-on -mower racing we had trailers, mowers, brush-cutters, Back-pack sprayers, big cutter things. the list goes on & on. Some members came Friday, Saturday & Sunday.The practise range & camping area were all mowed, Ride on mowers disappeared out on to the ranges followed by members with chain saws, pruning tools & rakes. The canteen kept the members watered & fed. It was just an exciting place to be. Thank you all so much it was just fantastic.

And now for the bit you have all been waiting for the scores.Top score this weekend was Strings Bruce with a jaw dropping 390, thats so good it almost brings a tear to the eye. On a more low key note grandad Cec again ground his heel on my toe and beat me into submission, at this point a collective sigh & utterance of poor Old Fart should have escaped from your lips. Yuk, Awful, Very Hot, Blimey, Hell on Earth, Oven Like, well that's my take on Saturdays weather. Man was it hot, it was far to much for whimpy me but 11 others performed very well. Feathers set the range on fire with a blistering 386 well done Dave. Coins Alistair spent 2 days completely rebuilt his bow with all tolerances set exactly. Such dedication was rewarded with, wait for it, Exactly the the same score as last week. Dispite the heat everybody seemed to enjoy the day. Scores were:-Feathers Dave 386, Don't tie with me Brett 384, Coins Alastair 380, Sponge Tim 368, Martin 368, Neil 364, Gary 362, Don't mention me Steve 362, Grandad Cec 354, Ben 308, Old Dryfire Gloria 258, Old Fart Mike Simply melted away.

A big thank you to the members who made the effort to turn up for the meeting, well done.

A few things that were voted on & passed:-

The club will start work on 4 yes 4 flush toilets.
We will be having a club champion this year, believe it or not this takes a lot of work on somebodies part, so show some interest. Mens, Ladies, Juniors & Cubs will be recognised. I think that was the plan. If I have this wrong it's grandads fault as he stated we would have Adults, Ladies, juniors & Cubs. found that really funny. & I did make sure the girls heard it.
We will be awarding a club person of the year the format for points will be explained as soon as it is finalised.
Trip to archery expo cancelled.
Indoor to go ahead. There are some reservations, so if you have an interest please support this club venture. A teams format will be combined with a postal challenge against Taree. Please look for a venue near town at little to no cost.
The Canteen will be womaned each week, (that's the female version of manned) So to get drinks etc you pay at the canteen.
Please put your thinking cap on as we are required to formulate a 5 year plan re the club, so put your ideas forward.
The club is to install an honour board to honour past achievements of our members.
Thought given to increasing the number of arrows shot on a Saturday.

That's about all I can remember so as you can see a lot happened, the next meeting is the first Saturday shoot in March after the shoot.

Next Sunday is a working Bee. There is a list of jobs on the chalk board. The Goanna range is at the moment, unshootable so we need your help.

Hi all I just received an email from "don't mention me Steve" Now most people would be just so excited at having tied with old fart but not DMMS, he felt he needed more practice. So in a fit of enthusiasm he headed of to Pipers Creek to let his arrows fly from 80 yards, Sounds like IFAA practice to me, well he achieved another Personnal Best. He Robin hooded a shaft from 80 yards funny part, well it was funny if you weren't paying for the arrows, the shaft wasn't in the target face but slightly of to the side. Still on the bale but not the face.

Sad part from my point of view was that he hadn't had time to install his new wraps

Gee I enjoyed today, great weather & great company just how can it get any better. Our club coach still has a few secrets left, hence he beat me yet again. Hope my turn comes soon.

The scores indicate that everybody enjoyed the day and close results followed. I would like to say how well Karen shot. We don't get the pleasure of her company as often as we would like & I think her score was top drawer. Well done Karen.

What makes this so special is I have made no secret of how excited I get when I get close to & on one occasion actually beat Grandad. Well here we are again, the end of another year. Boy did it get here quickly seems like only yesterday we celebrated Jan 1 2010. Those who didn't know me last year probably don't realise just how handsome that extra 12 months has made me, old dryfire reckons it's just my eyesight that has deteriorated.

Hi all.

Friday 10th Dec & 13 Macleayites set of into the deep south, 9 of them were armed with bows, provided Bowless brought his), Arrows & all sorts of equipment. Hunter Bowmen is a interesting layout & it was to be my first visit to this club which is set on the coal plains of the East Maitland area & signs of the coal industry are every where. Massive bits of steel, boilers, trucks & buildings were all cast of and lay in wait for there fate. When you enter the grounds the first thing you see is the camping area divided into 2 by the track in. Porta toilets sprung from the ground like native flowers. Manning had started to set up on the wrong side of the tracks, and Camp Macleay was started on the good side. Geez hope Manning don't read this. By Sat morning Camp Macleay was something to behold even Captain Cook would have been impressed by our ability to colonise the area. Let me take you on a virtual tour. Starting at the village green which was fully carpeted and roofed. The tarp used for the roof must surely have been used to cover the wicket block at the Sydney Cricket Ground such was its size. The southern edge contained seating and the kitchen table, the western side had more seating plus a cot for the less fortunate members of society to use. Grandad Cec tells me it was quite comfortable. The northern side had a single story steel house with innerspring mattress. Attached to this was our commercial development which housed our hairdresser, a turbo charged hair drier, a large chair that looked really comfy, a hair washing sink with chair & finally a set of drawers which I guess you throw bits of ear into should you have an 'OOPS' moment. The kitchen was on the eastern side complete with hanging utensils. Through the centre ran the serving table & bar.

Small single family dwellings had sprung up in variouse suburbs of Camp Macleay. Feathers had a particularly beautiful green lawn complete with rubber path & Don't tie with me enjoyed his alfresco concept with concealed mossie netting. James from Manning was so impressed he crept over to our side of the tracks.

Pb's for the weekend Bowless Aaron 376 three arrow. Handsom Mike who somebody unkindly referred to as Old Fart 372 Three arrow, 378 1 arrow, Old dry fire 2 dry fires for the 1 weekend. Finally in a collective show off strength we all shot a starwars PB.

Grandad Cec's score is corrected on this as we found a 20 points addition mistake, dispite that it didn't alter his position & I HAVE FINALLY BEATEN GRANDAD & yes I am really proud of that so there.

Couple of things I nearly forgot. Most outdoors types are content to smoke fish/ meat etc, but grandad took this to new heights when he lit the outdoor brazier and tried to smoke the entire camp. It also appears Chef Darrin's inventive ability knows no bounds I think he was trialing a new steam or glove powered van for the trip home. Rumor has it that the brazier re-ignited on the trip home & used Darrin's welding glove as fuel. He & Cec pulled up at Taree for a much needed coffee or Mocha for Darrin got out and quizzed each other over a burning smell, before finding the much redused glove. I really wish I had been there to see their faces. Dryfire thinks they could have been smoke signals to Santa ' Dear Santa I have been a really good boy can I pleasssssssssse have a new welding glove."

I am very pleased to announce that as of 28/11/10 Macleay Valley Archers now have an official Game Measurer - Bruce Crumpton, and a Bowhunter Education Officer - Myself (Steve Harris), as a result of the accreditation weekend at Moonterra Archers. Many thanks to Lindsay and Ralph for a very enjoyable and educational weekend and also to the Moonterra Archers for their excellent hospitality.As Bowhunter Education Officer I am now able to run the B.P.C. (Bowhunter Proficiency Certificate) courses for our club and strongly recommend that all of our members make the effort to sit this course. Our Bowhunters need a B.P.C. to claim game and obtain an "R" Licence to hunt Deer and declared State forests. It is also important that our target only archers attain a B.P.C. to help the A.B.A. show the people who make no distinction between Hunter or Target Archer, that a responsible level of bow use is taking place in our clubs.Even if you do not hunt and only wish to take part in Archery, purely as a target sport, to obtain a B.P.C. is a demonstration that you are a responsible bow user and supporter of the A.B.A. This means that the A.B.A. has a stronger arguement to help keep our sport alive when they can present a strong number of accredited, proficient bow users to the authorities and bodies that would otherwise see our sport outlawed and banned based on the actions of the very few that do the wrong thing and bring our sport into disrepute.The B.P.C. is a free service provided to A.B.A.. members which can usually be held over only one day so the time and monetary costs are extremely minimal. Well it's with great trepidation that I write this article. It appears I have been threatened with great acts of violence unless I change my ways. Now as a born coward I am about to comply with said request hence forth Uncle Cec is to be known as Grandad Cec, the grand part meaning:

Chief, splendid, magnificent, lofty, imposing, $1000. or in spanish Grandee:-

Nobleman, Magnificence. You take your pick as to which applies to grandad cec. I guess in his grandaughter's eyes he is all these things. Hope that gets me back in the good books with the little people. And now to the shoot beautiful, beautiful, beautiful is the only way to descibe the weather and the day in general. Very warm with a cooling breeze. Good enough for Cassie to shoot a personnal best. Well done Cassie. Really nice to have the executive chef back We had real food again Ya-hoo. 2 new shooters arrived to enjoy the day, Kad & Samual, both shot well and enjoyed the day.

Once again Uncle Cec's band of merry archers gathered in the shaded glens , under the emerald green canopy of Tamban forest. The recent rain had really caused our babbeling brooks to babble, whilst the beautiful late spring sunshine created dappled patterns across the wet boggy paths. Only 12 tried & true members were prepared to accept the challenge which Uncle Cec decreed would be 20 targets of a max of3 arrows with the first hit to score. Battle plans were drawn up and our band divided into 3 groups. the main offensive would be handled by the senior archers of Uncle Cec, Range master Shane, Feathers Dave and Sponge Tim. Group 2 would comprise of our fit junior members Son of range master Jacob, Bowless Aaron, Young Maid Cassie & tired Dion. Just on this, this was a really bad choice for second group as anarchy ruled & no decision could be reached as to who should shoot, the maths involved in scoring was almost beyond our quartet and only daylight saving saved us from finishing by torch. The final group was undoubtedly the cream of the band, picked for their ability to mop up after the battle It comprised of DJ Gene, don't mention me Steve. Handsome Mike & Fairest of maidens Gloria.

Due to Executive chef Darrin being away and the BBQ not arriving we feasted on nuts & dry apricots. Sorry but this just didn't do it for me. Oh have I mentioned Steve was with us! The results of the days efforts are listed below:

About 105 archers took part with only a small contingent from Macleay accepting the challenge, sorry Daniel but as yet I haven't been able to find your score, but I did notice you up the front at trophy time well done.

I really would like to find whoever left the furnace door open on Saturday afternoon, wondering around the Black range was like walking through death valley. All us oldies dragged ourselves back to camp looking & feeling totally wrecked. Uncle Cec sat there with a Rum & Coke strapped to his forhead, Darrin was the most subdued I have ever seen him seems his Ross River loved the heat. I went to bed and don't know what happened to the other mature aged archers. Our sub 20 years contingent acted like it was all a piece of cake. Oh to be young again. Poor old Cassandra decided it was a good time to get a virus and a touch of heat stroke. It would appear that after passing the virus on to the rest of the family and a bit of rest she is now on top of the world again.

In a major step forward Arron remembered his bow and as usual Jacob shot the highest score from the Macleay. I don't have any info re places but I will list the scores.

What a fantastic day, clear blue sky, light breeze, gentle sunshine playing with the shadows, birds chirping & drinks brought to you on the course all for your pleasure.

Well that's how it could have been if it wasn't for the rain, strong winds and raging creek crossings across the road. Gloria, Gary & I turned up after being told & I quote "We shoot every weekend rain hail or shine" I have now learnt that is not quit true. It seems floods and rain of Noah's proportions are the exception, however since you have taken the trouble to look this up this is what could have been. Young Michael with 1 target to go was on 380 old Gary was also on 380 as was young Gloria. As word spread the pressure mounted on all three archers. Who would triumph? Mike stepped up to the peg drew back and with consummate ease dropped the shaft dead centre of the 20, Gary stepped up aimed and produced a fantastic Robin hood shot, the crowd went wild. Gloria amid the roar stepped forward aimed and split Gary's shaft.The perfect end to a non arrow shoot.

In closing this is not meant to diminish the achievements of those that have shot 400. Just a bit of fun, so please don't be offended
